With Valentine’s Day this week, it’s only appropriate that our Moods board for this week is all about the blushing color pink! The color pink can range from soft and romantic to bold and dramatic. Pink symbolizes love, nurturing and things going well in a positive and healthy way. Phrases like “tickled pink” or “everything is rosy” quickly come to mind. Pink is generally thought of as a playful color and can really be an easy color to work with in fashion or in the home. Pink falls opposite of the color green on the color wheel so they are complementary colors. This is why sage and a soft pink look pair so nicely together. There are so many ways to incorporate pink into your space. See our list below of ways to play with is always pretty hue!
Paint is an easy way to add pink, or any other color for that matter, to enliven a space. You can paint your walls, one wall, the ceiling or maybe just the trim. The options are really endless! It really just comes down to how much drama you want to achieve. Color-drenching is a popular route and we are seeing this trend more and more. We love it! Why? Because it commits to a color and makes a statement. The best thing about paint is that if you hate it or want to change things up down the road, it’s easy to do so. Selecting a pink colored tile is definitely more of a commitment that choosing to just paint the vanity pink.
In this little girl’s bedroom and bathroom, we painted the interior doors and trim a soft pretty pink shade to add a pop of color and pulling from the wallpaper we selected for her bathroom.
Wallpaper is more of a commitment so you better love your selection. 🙂 However, it is pretty easy to take down these days should you want to change it so not the end of the world here. One misconception about wallpaper in general is that you can only use it in one way or in one scheme. If we design a nursery that includes pink wallpaper, it does not mean that it cannot grow with the child as they get older. Quite the contrary, a lot of the wallpapers can transition into beautiful young girl and young adult rooms. It really comes down to what you pair with it. Transitioning to a big-girl bed, you can pull a different color out of the wallpaper or select an upholstered bed that offers a bold contrast with the color and the wallpaper and look amazing! These are some of our favorite motifs:
Nothing makes a statement like a pink piece of furniture! There are endless options when it comes to fabric and upholstery, especially if you work with a designer. A pink sofa commands attention in a neutral setting. It can be the statement piece and act as a conversation starter because let’s face it, not too many people have pink sofas. A bolder statement is a deep saturated version of this hue like magenta. It screams look at me so you want it to be good! This dresser had us at hello!
Want to dip your toe into decorating with this lovely hue? Add a fun accessory to an office, hallway or bedroom! Accessories are low commitment but can pack a punch. Think about which space makes sense to add a playful touch to. Table lamps are fun to flank a bed or incorporating pink bedding or a cute toss pillow, can instantly add a punch to a neutral scheme. There is nothing better than a gorgeous chandelier to anchor a room. Take a peak at this chandelier below that was love at first sight! A pink mirror would look amazing in a girl’s bathroom and if there are other pink tones happening in the space, even better. Play it up! Love this mirror from Anthropologie!
