Notes

Feb 23

Welcome to my weekly edit, or notes, of what I am loving, what peaked my curiosity this week, latest happenings and what’s next! I am off to KBIS today and I’m excited to be going back for the 2nd time in a row. I am on the board for our local NKBA chapter and all board members have training all day Monday, which leads into the show on Tuesday and ends Thursday. KBIS is the largest kitchen and bath show and it’s massive. I couldn’t make it through everything last year so I have set more reasonable expectations for this year. It’s great to see all of the latest and greatest products on the market, as well as see all of the materials, finishes, fixtures and appliances in person in one place. Some of the vendors go all out for the show and design amazing booths to experience. It was truly inspiring last year so I’m excited for the 2025 show!

Loving

Let’s start off by talking about the Away x White Lotus Collaboration! Away just launched a gorgeous travel line inspired by the latest season of White Lotus that is set in Thailand. The luxe travel line features raffia-like texture, custom lotus print lining and leather details. It’s really so good!

“Life is short…just take the trip.”

An Architectural Digest article, which debuted back in 2022, about Nancy Meyer’s house refresh by Mark D Skies was recirculated on their weekly email. Nancy Meyer is the queen of the Rom-Com genre. Her homes are elegant, classy and warm. Continuously highly ranked in the minds of every design aficionado, her spaces are a character within the story portraying the ideal backdrop for aspirational living. It’s pretty easy to spot a Nancy Meyer’s movie from the set alone. In fact, AD also wrote an article about how her movie interiors have made her a design icon!

Her dreamy outdoor space…I just cannot get enough. The architecture (simple yet detailed), the greenery (so lush), and warm-toned furniture scattered throughout is just a dream. Nothing gets me more than vines and archways!

Buying

Oh my gosh is my purchasing list long for our upcoming remodel. The truth is that as a designer you would think that I would have everything ready to go. However, I am actually quite behind on my own project as it often comes last. I mentioned the primary bathroom tile in a previous notes post but now I need to get the flooring on order. We will be going with another type of marble for the floor. I knew I wanted a marble floor and I knew that I wanted a pattern of some kind. Everyone who knows me knows that I LOVE a checkerboard layout. It’s classic, fun and can be as bold as you would like. I will be doing a checkerboard tile in the laundry room so I did not want to do the same layout in the primary bathroom. These options are close to that but different enough. The space is also quite narrow, so I didn’t want huge tiles where I would loose the design.

Reading

Not much reading happening this week other than emails that I missed while I was sick. I’m slowly getting caught up on everything and prepping for KBIS this coming week. One thing that happens at KBIS is a series of lectures and talks that cover several topics related to the home, design and building industry. I did not get a chance to go last year but I’ve been looking at the schedule and am hoping to squeeze in a few. I’ll share my thoughts on them in my recap post.

Nkba Kbis Voices From The Industry

Currently

This week focused on more procurement: tile, custom drapery, re-quoting for existing and upcoming projects. One project we revisited was a design we are going for a sweet little girl’s room. The color palette is blue and white and it is going to be sweet as ever! We’ll do a full concept post on this one because it’s just too cute!

We also had our membership mixer this past week, which is a joint event with the local ASID and NARI chapters. It was a huge success and we had a large turnout!

I’ll be off this week since I will be at the show but I will be back with a recap of everything I saw and learned at the KBIS. Until then!
