Notes

Jan 26

Welcome to my weekly edit, or notes, of what I am loving, what peaked my curiosity this week, latest happenings and what’s next! It does seem as though time goes by faster and faster the older I get. I celebrated a birthday this past week so I’ve been thinking about that even more. January is typically the time that I reorganize and clean out things that are no longer serving me or that I no longer love. The older I get, the easier it is for me to remove things that I no longer need. I have heard some people say that instead of new years resolutions, you should make your resolutions at your birthday. Well since I have a January birthday and it feels like the right time for me to do it, it looks like January will remain the best time for me to keep doing what I’m doing. But maybe it has less to do with the new year than my birthday? Not sure. It is, however, cold in January and I’m not a huge fan so I would rather spend my time inside. 🙂

Loving

Seeing Naomi Campbell’s Kenyan Villa in AD was a refreshing change in the home tour world. Open and airy filled with an abundance of natural light and inviting wood tones, AD calls it “an ode to laid-back opulence.” I have to agree and seeing it reminds me of my trip to South Africa and how much I loved it. I did not have any expectations prior to going but it’s a beautiful country with amazing food, unique experiences and cool design. It holds a special place in my heart. Check out our post on Safari Design, inspired by my trip to South Africa!

Travel is one of my favorite things to do and I love to feature various destinations in our weekly notes! Let’s take a trip to Italy! Last week we toured a London hotel full of eye candy and this week we travel to Venice to check out this beyond gorgeous Palazzo overlooking the Grand Canal. Located a short walk from Piazza San Marco, this hotel is located in the Palazzo Papadopoli, one of the eight eight monumental palazzos on the Grand Canal. This hotel features refurbished frescos, detailing specific to the 16th and 18th Centuries, carefully integrated modern conveniences. Aman even has private gardens with views over the Grand Canal.

Buying

There are some items that I can just not get enough of and that I am constantly collecting. Two of these items are trays and boxes. I think they are a necessary accessory to have in a room. They work in so many different spaces and on open shelving, coffee tables, console tables, etc. They are come in a variety of sizes, materials and colors so there are always options to fit any aesthetic. I have long been a fan of natural materials and therefore cannot pass up a natural stone accessory really of any kind. And you can really find these accessories anywhere from vintage stores to retailers. Here are two that I recently picked up and love. We will see if they get used in an upcoming client project or in my home as we get into our upcoming remodel.

Reading

There is a book that I love. I have actually had it for a while but still pick it up quite often. And not really a story per se, it is a collection of letters and notes that are inspiring and uplifting. Think of it like daily little lessons. I will randomly pick a page and read the “note.” 🙂

Here’s the one from today from page 439:

Time out! Time out!

What do you mean, it doesn’t seem like it’s working?

You can’t see your life turning around?

It’s hard? Ack!

Of course, it doesn’t seem like that; of course, it seems hard!

This is an adventure, you’re an adventurer, and uncertainty and setbacks “happen.” Besides, “easy” has never been your style, and setbacks are only ever stepping-stones to grander places.

The day your ship arrives, and it now swiftly approaches, the journey and the setbacks will be among your fondest memories.

Stay the course!

Resume play,

PS-Challenges? Problems? Big deal!
