It has been a minute since I’ve been on here and it has been a busy year with working through all of the existing projects, getting them to the finish line and beginning new ones. The one thing that I’ve learned is that everything takes time and while designers are rarely in control of timelines and schedules, there are practices that we are putting into place to help in the best way possible. There have been a ton of lessons learned over the last several years. And you never really see it all even if you think you have :)! I am excited for the developments happening now and where the business and brand is headed. I will use this as a journal, hopefully more frequently than the last year, to share lessons, inspirations and some personal things along the way!
I loved reading all about the posh London hotel this week-At Sloane. Situated in London’s Chelsea neighborhood, it has been impressively renovated to its original architectural glory but through a modern lens. The 1888 red brick Victorian building was overhauled by François-Joseph Graf and every space if full of eye candy!
Visual imagery is so important to a brand and I love how At Sloane uses a collage of images on their website to solidify their brand message. The images remind me of how we kick off our design projects with a lot of different imagery to convey a tone or a feeling. The ideation of a project starts with imagery that gets refined and curated until you land on a final concept. Check out this post that shows how we went from concept inspiration to execution, evolving along the way.
I am in the midst of studying for my Well AP certification. This will push the studio into designing sustainable, healthy environments that put occupant well-being first. It is founded on six principles and 10 concepts. This is a topic that has me very excited about the future and how we can incorporate these intentionally into our projects.
On this front, I am trying out some new nail polish from 100% Pure. Zero is a vegan, cruelty-free nail polish brand that is made without the 20 common toxins found in conventional formulas. I’m curious to see how it works and if I like it, especially after being disappointed with my last several gel manicures.
We have slowly been updating our website over the last few months, which I love working on! It’s another creative outlet that we get to play around with and tweak to make sure it’s up-to-date and showcasing some of the amazing projects that we have been lucky enough to work on.
One project we are currently working on is a new office space for a ticket company. Since this is a company that sells tickets for all major sporting events and concerts, we can really use that as our jumping off point for the brand. We want it to feel like sporty, but in a sophisticated way. The space needs to be fun, but elegant. We have pulled together a lot of imagery to get the creative concept, tone, vibe and palette defined. There is a lot to hone in on but we are excited about this one. Stay tuned!
As we are also working through the exterior design with our client and the architect, we are looking at various exterior colors and details. Although we are converting an existing residential home, we want to modernize it where we can.
These are a couple of the images that I liked-clean and simple:
