Valentine’s Day was last week and we did a mood board on the blushing shade of pink. What is one color that pairs beautifully with pink? Sage! A soft, romantic pink is gorgeous when paired with this chic shade. Sage recalls nature; it is an earthy greenish gray color that immediately calls to mind nature, fauna and growth. This chic shade of green also represents tranquility and renewal making it an ultimate color to bring indoors. There is science behind our cravings for the outdoors, plants and biophilic beauty. The entire premise behind biophilic design is to bring our innate connection to the natural environment indoors. Judging by the amount of products available on the market in this color, sage is not a trend but a classic with staying power.

Soothe Your Space

The tone of green is an excellent color to introduce to your home or office setting. It’s a calming color that acts like a neutral. You can easily add color without going too bold or dramatic. Sage is an option for those who seek color in a more muted way. It will not overpower the space but will add interest. There are also varying shades and saturation of sage; it all depends on the undertone. Some shades will have a more yellow undertone while others can have a gray undertone. Then depending on the type of lighting in the space, the color can read cooler or warmer.

Walls

Adding this soothing hue to your walls is one of the most common applications that we see. Clients just love this color. And it’s easy to see why. It’s just a pretty, calming color. It’s an easy color to work with that goes with a lot of different styles. Your walls are one of the largest element in your space, if not the largest. You can completely paint one wall in this color but we are in favor of full commitment and painting the entire room in one color. It looks great every time!

The above photos show a classical paneling application that can easily be painted a pretty sage green. If you want to take it up a notch, you can level up the paneling and go with a trellis or add a sage-hued wallpaper that steps up the drama.

Cabinets

Painting millwork or cabinets a color other than white is a request that we are seeing more and more lately. And we love that! Just like painting your walls, painting your cabinets is a way to make a statement. Sage is a beautiful color on any cabinetry; we love it in kitchens, bathrooms, and offices.

Tile

A more permanent way to incorporate this chic shade is through tile. It can be used to bring a little color to a kitchen backsplash or you can saturate a bathroom in this pretty tone. Green tile, especially when paired with wood tones, brings the natural color palette of the outdoors inside. There are so many vendors with great options. This is one of our favorites! A classic herringbone would look great on the floor or shower wall.

We recently used this pretty shade in our commercial project for an apothecary tea house. The immediate focal point upon entering the space is an oval-shaped floating island at the front of the store. It was the perfect moment to showcase a pretty color. We selected hand-made zellige tile for its imperfect aesthetic and variation in color. We love how it turned out! It’s one of our favorite elements in the entire space!

Fixtures & Accessories

Lighting fixtures are an easy win in this color. The color lends itself to more feminine spaces and looks great when paired with brass accents. We love these two fixtures here! Then there is always the accessory route to incorporate this color in a small, but no less, meaningful way. This pretty wall mirror would look great in an entryway or in a bathroom to kick the boring. And this cute striped pillow with bows? A hard yes from us! Caitlin Wilson does it again!
