Welcome to my weekly edit, or notes, of what I am loving, what peaked my curiosity this week, latest happenings and what’s next! This week was rough…I got sick. The emails, as well as calls, piled up that I will tend to this coming week. Getting sick is such an inconvenience and throws schedules, plans and productivity out the window. Everything on my schedule got canceled, which was disappointing. I need to make sure I am back to normal in time for a membership mixer this week, a dancing evaluation, as well as my flight to Vegas for the KBIS show on Sunday.
I am obsessed with this collaboration and it arrives just in time to get everyone thinking about spring! Mark & Graham partnered with Sanderson (a well-known British design group) to bring their popular floral prints to the masses. Sanderson, whose designs have the British royal seal of approval, have been supplying royal residences with fabric and wallpaper since 1924. The M&G design team selected six prints from Sanderson’s archives to adorn the pretty homewares. Check out the full collection here!
I am absolutely loving this lamp! I saw it come through an email from Salon immediately fell for this gorgeous light fixture. Comprised of wood, ceramic and brass this floor lamp was designed by Drew Abrahamson, an Australian artist. Salon is a New York design studio that represents emerging and established creatives. They really do have such a unique and curated selection of home products that are all works of art. Take a look at these floor lamps from their website that are pure sculptures of art!
This week has been all about procuring tile. Well tile and juice (now that I’m sick). The first part of our remodel refresh is going to be changing out the floors so we have to order everything and have it ready to go. There is a tile that I have loved since the first time I saw it probably over five years ago at this point. It’s a patterned tile, made in Mexico, that is comprised of a circles and crosses. I love the tile because of the shape (you don’t see it that often but it is gaining popularity) and the color. The color is a soft off-white pretty tone that works well in many different aesthetics. We will be using it in our powder bathroom.
The Blue Zones. I’m down for anything involving The Blue Zones-the areas of the world that have the highest level of centenarians. When I first heard about these areas so long ago, I was immediately intrigued. We are constantly bombarded with sickness and disease, it’s uplifting to hear good news concerning health. I am not vegan nor vegetarian but I lean that way (more vegetarian) and I’ve been like that since I was young. It has just always been my preference.
I’ve been revisiting this book that discusses each zone and the correlation between food and health. The book also includes healthy recipes and tips for making your home and life healthier. There is a section on designing your home and kitchen for easy health and rituals to adapt to take the guess-work out of the equation. Netflix came out with a series last year that featured each blue zone. I loved the visual documentary full of interviews and cooking segments!
There is a lot going on to prepare for our upcoming production-refresh project. I will be working on a series of this project and writing different posts for each phase. This is all about to start in two weeks! It’s coming up soon so as a little teaser, this is one of the early mood/vibe boards that I created to inspire the overall design of the home. Since this was not a full custom build, we were very limited with options and decided to not do any builder upgrades. The ultimate objective is to achieve a refined design while saving where we can. Here’s a little preview:
We will also be contributing our design services to a Salvation Army charity event this April. We will be designing a table for this event along with 40 other local designers and companies in Austin. The theme of our table hasn’t fully been decided yet but we have been pulling inspiration images to start narrowing it down. This one is going to be good!
